1941 Graduated from the Ceramics Department, Aichi Prefectural Tokoname Technical
High School Studied under his grandfather, the first-generation Yamada Jōzan, while still in school
1946 Became an apprentice to his father, the second-generation Yamada

1958 Selected for the 5th Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition for the first
time
Awarded the Grand Prix at the Brussels World's Fair (Expo 1958)
1959 Won First Prize and the Asahi Award at the 7th Living Crafts Exhibition
1961 Succeeded to the name of third-generation Yamada Jōzan
1963 Became a full member of the Japan Kōgei Association (present)
